This is not your “typical” river cruise

Ever cruised on the rivers of Europe? AmaWaterways Cambodia and Vietnam River Cruises are quite different. While you will visit larger cities, like Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, or Sa Dec, the town where French writer Marguerite Duras lived, you’ll also visit tiny settlements. Picture your ship pulling up to the shore, and dropping the gangway, allowing you to enjoy the countryside of Cambodia and Vietnam.

Daily excursions with expert local guides are included. In addition to the more traditional excursions via motor coach, you’ll also enjoy more adventurous modes of transportation – including a ride in an oxcart, a tuk tuk or a trishaw. Of course, much of life in Cambodia and Vietnam is based around the river. You’ll travel by small boats to see the local markets or workshops where fine paper, sweets or other handicrafts are created. You might visit a school and have a chance to interact with local students eager to try out their English with you. You might even be fortunate enough to be blessed by Buddhist monks in a stunning pagoda.

What can you see on AmaWaterways Cambodia and Vietnam River Cruises?

The scenery of the magnificent Mekong is amazing. When we cruised here, we enjoyed visiting the rural villages and floating markets along the river, spotting historic pagodas and waiving at families and little children that are excited to see your ship sail by their homes ashore. You’ll also learn more about the less positive history of Cambodia and Vietnam, and have the opportunity to visit the Killing Fields and Genocide Museum in Phnom Penh. If you prefer, you can also visit the Royal Palace, Cambodia National Museum and the Central Market.

Your Cambodia and Vietnam river cruise ship: the AmaDara

The 124-passenger AmaDara made her debut in 2015 and is in a class unto itself, with distinct French Colonial décor and accented by Mekong artifacts made by native craftsmen. All staterooms and suites features twin balconies – both a French and an outside balcony – and are at least 251 sq. ft.  Suites range from 366 to 502 sq. ft.
